Old Graphic Design Projects: Post #1

So today, as you may of noticed I've added some other work to the portfolio  section of the blog. As I was going through some of my old college work I found some projects that I haven't scene in quite a while. I plan on sharing some of my old design projects on this blog; discussing how I came up with the concept and my process for the particular pieces. One of the projects being my Mac Lipstick Ad campaign I had to create for my Adobe Photoshop course back in college in 2005.

The day this project was given to our class, the professor had a box filled with mini papers. Each paper had  a different type of product written on it. We each had to pick out a paper and create an ad for that particular product. I ended up getting MAC as my product for this assignment. Being a guy and not knowing anything about makeup, I decided to start my research directly on the MAC website. As I was on the website, I noticed that each of their different types of lipstick had different and unique names; i.e. Fresh Brew, Fetish, Film Noir, Honeylove, etc. Back in 2005, one of their lipsticks was called "Feel So Fine". Which was the one that I chose to use for my ad campaign.

Once that was decided on, I starting thinking about the type of ad that I wanted to create. I began looking at other ads created for lipsticks and noticed a very similar pattern of a girl caring the specific lipstick being advertised. So I decided to stick with that pattern, but I wanted less emphasis on the girl and more emphasis on the lipstick. Once I found the picture I was looking for, I copied the lips on onto a seperate layer in Adobe Photoshop in order to have more control over the manipulation. I then added a Gaussian Blur to the layer with the photo. That way the lips on the individual would stand out. I then got the exact color of the Mac lipstick "Feel So Fine" and made the lips that particular color in order to emphasize the specific color. The image above was the final product of the ad campaign for the project.
